Speaker : Sue Dill
Webplay Recording Date : 2-10-2010
Webplay Price : $ 200 for two weeks viewing
Webinar Overview:
This program will cover the Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert on Disruptive Behavior. It will also cover the disruptive behavior standard that is found in the leadership chapter. This standard becomes effective on January 1, 2009 and hospitals and medical staffs continue to wrestle with implementation and compliance. This program will discuss what is needed to help comply with this standard including how to draft up a code of conduct, policies and procedure, develop a process for reporting and acting on disruptive behavior and education of staff and physicians.
The Joint Commission Standard on disruptive behavior will help hospitals understand the effects that disruptive behavior have on patient safety. These behaviors can be displayed by any health care employee including: management, clinical/administrative staff, volunteers, licensed independent practitioners, medical staff and governing body members. In addition, there are various categories, such as: verbal or non-verbal, the use of rude language, threatening manners, or even physical abuse. With this in mind, it is imperative that health care leaders be prepared to address such disruptive behavior at any level. Hospitals will be provided tips to implement a code of conduct and tips to implementing a process such as having a special incident report.
This program will also contain the March 2009 American Medical Association (AMA) guidance in developing a code of conduct in the medical staff bylaws. The AMA has issued a model code of conduct and a new definition of disruptive behavior. In this audio conference, Sue Dill Calloway, RN, BSN, JD will help hospital leaders to create a process and structure to allow a culture of quality and safety to flourish.
